Decoding the Magento 2.3 Upgrade: Unraveling the Mystery of Rising CPU Load and Search Performance Issues

The recent Magento 2.3 upgrade has resulted in increased database CPU load because of issues with search-term cache performance. The database suffers primarily due to the Popular Search Term Cache, which ironically slows the system instead of improving efficiency. This particularly happens when the 'search_query' table size grows, causing substantial delays. A critical bottleneck in the search function also slows down the process. However, removing this dramatically enhances performance. The DISTINCT operator, intended to eliminate redundancy, adds to the problem, especially with a larger 'search_query' table. Proposed solutions like table indexing and using Elasticsearch for search functions, while beneficial, don’t entirely fix the issue. Thus, the best remedy is to optimize keyword search queries, mainly by eliminating the DISTINCT operator.
